How to Prepare

Your teacher will have all competition information from Onstage New York. We always send out a complete confirmation packet for each studio to the teacher. Additionally, you can find most schedules for each competition weekend on this site about a week in advance. Go to Regionals and click on the city you're attending.

Your teacher has been preparing for quite some time. He/She may require extra rehearsals before a competition. You might also expect specific dancewear, costumes or team jacket requirements - check with your teacher to see if they have a list of what to bring for competitions - many do!

Onsite Registration

During registration on Saturday/Sunday morning, your teacher or studio representative will pick up the school's registration packet from the Onstage New York table. Each dancer does not need to individually check-in at this time. You will need to meet with your teacher to pick up your wristband for the master class if you have pre-registered for either of the classes. You can also sign up for the master classes on-site at the registration desk anytime throughout the weekend. There should be signs posted leading the ways to the dressing rooms, but you can always ask the registration desk where the dressing rooms are located.

Music

Usually, your studio director or teacher will probably handle turning in the music, but if you are responsible for submitting your own music, there a couple of things that will help make the process easier for you. Preprinted music labels with the entry number, studio code, and name of the dance are mailed to the studio about a week before competition- whenever possible, we ask that your music be submitted with those labels already on. There are two sets of labels; one for tapes and one for cds, use whichever labels you need. The music must be turned in to the registration desk no later than one hour prior to your first entry, or as soon as you arrive for the competition. Music can be picked back up at the end of competition after awards, along with your critiques.

Dressing Rooms and Backstage Etiquette

Once in the dressing room, look for the posted schedule that has your studio's name and studio code written on it- that is your designated dressing area, and also where the backstage staff will come to look for the performers to take them backstage. We do ask the performers to get ready in the dressing rooms, and always remind you that they should be ready at least 30 minutes prior to their scheduled time- we have been known to run ahead of schedule! Once the group is all assembled, the Backstage Staff will take the dancers backstage usually a few numbers ahead of their entry- that leaves you time to run around to the audience entrance to watch and cheer them on!

We encourage all of our attendees to be courteous and show sportsmanlike conduct at all times. This includes congratulating other performers as they are coming off stage, standing out of the way of the performers who are making quick entrances and exits through the wings, and staying quiet while in the backstage area.
