Competition Regulations

If requested, proof of age MUST be available for each contestant.

There is no limit to the overall number of entries a studio may submit. No entry fees are refundable. Make all checks payable to: ONSTAGE NY.

Soloists are limited to 3 solos per competition city. All qualified solos may compete at Nationals – no limits. However, soloists may never compete in any Performance Division more than once – both at Regionals and Nationals.

Competing performers may enter as many categories as desired, as long as they never compete against themselves.

Competing performers may compete for one studio only.

Professional dancers are not permitted to compete if over the age of 18.

SETS/PROPS: Studios are responsible for the transportation, storage, set up and removal of all sets and props. Check with each venue, as fees and restrictions may apply.

No dangerous props may be used during the competition (swords, fire, etc.). General props are allowed but must be taken on and off stage expeditiously. Have a clean-up crew ready for any “litter” left on stage. Set pieces and props requiring more than 30 seconds to set up/strike will result in a 5-point deduction from overall score. This time limit will be strictly enforced.

Excessive scenery and special lighting may not be used.

Vocalists must use a wireless handheld or headset microphone provided by ONSTAGE NY. No supplemental sound equipment permitted. No lead vocals are permitted on the accompaniment tracks, otherwise a 5-point deduction will be enforced.

Three wireless handheld or headset microphones will be made available for featured vocalists. In addition, the floor tap microphones will be utilized to support any group vocals.

Entry numbers containing more than 3 gymnastic passes must be entered in the Acro/Gymnastics category. Otherwise, 5 points will be deducted and the entry will be moved to the appropriate category.

Competing performers should be ready 60 minutes prior to their scheduled competition time. If the competition is running ahead of schedule, you will be expected to perform.

Competing performers must perform in the scheduled sequence unless special permission is granted by the M.C. Intentional manipulation of performance schedule will result in disqualification.

All performers and their teachers are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship and the general support of all participants.

Music, Choreography or costumes that are not considered age appropriate or family friendly by the panel of judges will be penalized.

1st Place Winners may not compete the same entry in another city the same season or at all the following season.

Any studio, performer or parent that abuses the designated dressing area will be disqualified. All participants are responsible for cleaning their area and properly disposing of all garbage.

No ONSTAGE NY employee will be permitted to judge their own choreography – their score will be dropped and the entry will not be eligible for any High Score, Critics’ Choice or Entertainment Awards.
